Award Levels
Standard Award
To receive the Standard Award, you need to:
Bronze Award
To receive the Bronze Award, you need to meet the requirements of the Standard level, and:
Silver Award
To receive the Silver Award, you need to meet the requirements of both the Standard and Bronze levels, and:
- exceed the requirements of the Volunteers Employment Protection Amendment Act 2004 (VEPA 04).
- ensure that your Company/Organisation/Institution's Human Resource policies provide managers and supervisors with formal guidelines and a code of practice regarding voluntary military service or training.
- provide top-up salary/wage payments to your employees during their voluntary military service or training and ensure that their families are not disadvantaged by this commitment.
- demonstrate a commitment to gaining a better understanding of the benefits that your employees gain from Reserve Force training, by managers or supervisors visiting them during their service activities.
- participate in developing partnerships between your employee, NZDF and your Company/Organisation/Institution for the mutual benefit to all three partners.
- allow your employee to undertake leave-without-pay for periods between 3 and 12 months to participate in NZDF Overseas Deployments, and ensure that they have employment on their return.
Gold Award
To receive the Gold Award, you need to meet the requirements of the Standard, Bronze and Silver levels, and:
- constantly exceed the requirements of the Volunteers Employment Protection Amendment Act 2004 (VEPA 04);
- display a CEO signed Statement of Support for NZDF Reserve Force Employees and Contractors employed by your Company/Organisation/Institution, both within the Head Office and your employee's work place;
- provide the option to your employees to retain their normal salary/wage payments while undertaking voluntary military service or training;
- celebrate your employee's participation and successes within the Reserve Forces through regular personal appraisals and acknowledgment in internal newsletters or similar media;
- celebrate the merits of building partnerships between your employee, NZDF and your Company/Organisation/Institution through internal newsletters or similar media;
- serve as an advocate for employees' service in the Reserve Forces and help promote the mission of the Territorial Forces Employer Support Council;
- provide support to your employees' families while they are undertaking voluntary military service or training;
- support your employees undertaking leave-without-pay for periods between 3 and 12 months to participate in NZDF Overseas Deployments, and
- guarantee their current position upon their return without incurring broken service provisions, normal leave provisions or superannuation contributions.
