Rights and Obligations

The Employers Responsibility:

Under Part One of the Volunteers Employer Protection Act (VEPA) the Employer must:

Allow the employee up to 21 days unpaid leave for routine part-time service such as weekend training exercises, evening training or annual field exercises.

Allow the employee up to 90 days unpaid leave for whole-time service such as Recruit Training, Initial Officer Training or short-term operational service.


The Employees Responsibility:

In order to be eligable for employment protection and leave from their civilian employer, the employee must:

Provide a minimum of 14 days verbal notice to their employer for part-time and whole-time service training.

Provide a minimum of 28 days written notice for overseas service.
