Intelligence Operator
Intelligence Operators in the New Zealand Army fulfil an important role. They gather and processes information to assist commanders in decision making and without this function the Army can't operate. Intelligence staff predict what the enemy is going to do, while safeguarding our secrets and preventing the enemy from being able to predict our intentions.
Your job will be to record, collate and process information from a variety of sources, following the ‘Intelligence Cycle’: Direction, Collection, Processing and Dissemination. You will need to be analytical and be able to operate under stressful conditions. You will be expected to work near the front line in field conditions.
The New Zealand Intelligence Corps (NZIC) is a fully integrated unit containing both Regular and Reserve members, and as an Army Reserve Intelligence Operator you will be expected to attend Intelligence Training when and where you are able, in line with your Civilian commitments.

Becoming an Intelligence Operator
Becoming an Intelligence Operator in the Army Reserve is a demanding part-time career choice, but one that brings with it heaps of rewards.
Currently, members of the Army Reserve must join up in another role and complete their Initial Training requirements before requesting to attend the Basic and Junior Intelligence Operator Courses, held annually in Waiouru.
Intelligence Courses
Army Reserve Intelligence Operators must complete the same courses as their Regular Counterparts. This gives them a comparable level of knowledge in this field as well as introducing them to the professionally focused world of the New Zealand Intelligence Corps.
As an Army Reserve Intelligence Operator the first course you will do is a Basic Intelligence Operator Course. This course is 5 weeks long and run at the School of Military Intelligence during July and August.
At the successful completion of this course you have the option of carrying on for a further 5 weeks to complete the Junior Intelligence Operator Course. If your other commitments do not allow for this, you have the option of returning the following year to complete this second course.
Overseas
Intelligence Operators are in very high demand for overseas service and opportunities exist for qualified Army Reserve Intelligence Operators to deploy wherever New Zealand Troops are serving.
