Army Reserve Recruit Training
"My life has been enriched by the quality of the people I have met, the challenges that have been put before me, and what I have been able to achieve. I have a real idea of what team work is now."
Tracy Anderson, Social Worker
Recruit Training in the Army Reserve is 58 days, divided into four separate modules which may be completed consecutively or staggered over a period of up to two years to allow for work or family commitments.
Module One - Introductory Phase
This 2 day period is an assessment for both you and the Army to determine your aptitude for further Military Training. During this course, you will live in Barracks Accommodation and learn the basics of Army Reserve life and how to conduct yourself as a soldier.
Module Two - Individual Skills Phase
During this 21 day course you will be taught basic skills required of all soldiers, such as safe weapon handing, marksmanship, first aid and navigation.
Module Three - Section Phase
This 21 day course builds on the basic skills attained during Module Two and introduces team based soldiering skills such as patrolling, hand signals and section level tactics in a field environment.
You will also qualify on the use of section weapons such as the M-203 Grenade Launcher and the M-72 Light Anti-Armour Weapon.
At the completion of this course your family and friends will be able to attend a march out parade celebrating your transition from Recruit to Soldier.
Module Four - Platoon Phase
This is a 14 day, physically demanding course which will test all the skills you have acquired so far in your training and equip you with the ability to perform the duties of a fully qualified soldier.
Conducted entirely in a field environment, the course will further develop your section level soldiering skills before moving onto Platoon operations in both rural and urban terrain.
At the completion of this course, you are considered a qualified Soldier and will be eligable to volunteer for Operational Service.
