The Army Reserve is the part-time component of New Zealand's Army, with a mission to provide trained individual volunteers and formed groups of soldiers for overseas operations.

Sixth Hauraki Battalion Group

Introduction

The 6th Hauraki Battalion Group is made up of an Infantry component and a Mounted Rifles sub-unit. The unit has headquarters in Hamilton and Tauranga and recruits its part-time soldiers and officers from the Waikato and East Coast Regions of the North Island.

Role

The role of the unit is to provide trained volunteers for overseas operations as required, as well as a trained pool of personnel to be able to respond to civil emergency tasks within New Zealand.

The unit also contains the Waikato Mounted Rifles Squadron which fills a light reconnaissance role and is the only Reserve unit of its kind in New Zealand.

In order to meet these roles the Unit trains regularly throughout the year. Training is broken down into 3 hour training nights, regular weekend exercises and an annual two-week exercise.
