Introduction

The 7th Wellington (City of Wellington's Own) and Hawke's Bay Battalion Group is an Army Reserve unit which contains part-time soldiers and officers from the Greater Wellington Region and the Hawkes Bay area of the East Coast of the North Island. The unit traces its origins to the New Zealand Rifle Brigade of 1914-1918 and as such its members wear the distinctive black blazes (cloth patches) of the four battalions of the Rifle Brigade on their Service Dress.

Role

The role of the unit is to provide trained volunteers for overseas operations as required, as well as a trained pool of personnel to be able to respond to civil emergency tasks within New Zealand.

In order to meet these roles the Unit trains regularly throughout the year.  Training is broken down into 3 hour training nights, regular weekend exercises and an annual two-week exercise.
