Value of the Reserves

COURAGE  COMMITMENT  COMRADESHIP  INTEGRITY

The Reserve Forces are a vital element of the New Zealand's Defence Force (NZDF).

Reserves provide almost 40% of our combat capability and provide a cost-effective means of maintaining the size of the Defence Force New Zealand requires.

Our Capabilities

In today’s strategic environment, it is vital that New Zealand has an efficient, well-trained and well-equipped Defence Force that is capable of carrying out New Zealand’s international security, humanitarian and peacekeeping obligations.

Our Skills

More and more, the skills, expertise and qualifications of the Reserve Forces are being called upon to help perform the essential tasks required in New Zealand’s international obligations.

Our Reputation

New Zealand has an excellent reputation in peace support operations. Maintaining the readiness of military personnel, including Reserve Forces personnel, for security, peace support, and humanitarian operations is vital to New Zealand’s international role.

Our Strengths

The strengths of NZDF include being able to relate well to other cultures, as well as specialist skills such as medical support, skills training and communications.

The NZDF bands are able to represent NZDF to the New Zealand public and are a source of pride within NZDF and in the community.

Reserve Forces personnel and their skills have always been an important part of the Defence Force and this will continue.
